Supporting Immigrant Families in Waltham through ESOL

and Preschool Education

The Waltham Family School is an English language program for immigrant families that prepares children for Kindergarten and provides English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) education to their parents.

Our families have remarkable strength and dedication, and are eager to embrace the community, fuel their children's success, and forge a bright path ahead.

What We Do

At the Waltham Family School, parents and their children attend the program four mornings a week, Tuesday-Friday, 8:45 AM – 12:00 PM.

Our family-focused program is made up of four parts:

  1. Preschool for children ages 3 to 5

  2. English classes for parents and caregivers

  3. Activities that help parents and children learn together and connect with the Waltham community

  4. Emotional support and social service referrals

Our ultimate goal is to support families in their educational journey. We make sure children are ready to succeed in school and parents learn enough English to succeed at work, school, and in the community.

Our Impact

Parents of Waltham Family School capture our program perfectly:

"I never get tired of saying thank you because if it weren’t for Waltham Family School, who opened the doors to me, life would still be difficult for me. Now I have a good job. I speak and understand English. I read English at my job, where I need to prepare food and all the recipes are in English."

“If it wasn’t for Waltham Family School I don’t think I could talk to you. Now I can explain myself. I can help my son. He can help me. I can speak to people. I can do things. I’m not shy anymore. I can speak up. My life has really changed.”

“When I came to the US I didn’t know any English. I learned all my English here. They taught me how to write letters and gave me some professional skills, using computers, and how to present myself. Now I’m a manager at a local restaurant. I have worked here for four years.”
